Brazil are through to the Quarter Final after beating Ghana 3:0 in Dortmund.
Brazil took the lead after just five minutes, with Kaka playing a lovely through-ball to Ronaldo, after Ghana were defending way too high up the pitch, and Ronaldo beat the Ghana keeper Kingston to tuck the ball away. Draman had Ghana’s first shot on goal in the 19th minute that Dida easily palmed over for a corner, which they failed to capitalise on, but it saw Ghana gaining in confidence. Ghana had a great chance to equalise minutes later when their captain Stephen Appiah played a great threaded pass to Matthew Amoah who was free on goal, but he put his shot wide. Amoah had another shot after some great play from Ghana, but his shot was straight at the Brazilian keeper, but Ghana were really coming into the game and causing as big a threat as Brazil on the break and just shading the possession after the opening 30 minutes. The pressure was mostly from Ghana as the half progressed, with Eric Addo turning well to beat Lucio in the Brazil defence and get his shot on target, but Dida was well behind it. There was some rash tackling coming from the Ghanaian midfield and defence as they struggled to restrict Adriano, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho in their attacks, from which Brazil failed to trouble Richard Kingson in the Ghana goalmouth. Brazil were very lucky not to concede with just four minutes of the first half remaining after John Mensah headed a powerful downward header hit the shins of Dida in the Brazilian goalmouth and away to safety. Completely against the run-of-play, Brazil scored a second goal after Adriano, who was later seen to be offside, latched onto a cross to bundle the ball into the net. The second-half saw Ghana continuing to press with some good football and were matching Brazil shot-for-shot. Both sides made some changes early in the second-half, with Juninho Pernambucano coming on for Brazil and with Derek Boateng coming on for Ghana as both teams continued to press each other. Ghana were playing some wonderful football, with some great build-up play, but the finishing was sadly lacking. Brazil on the other hand, looked subdued, and with the Ghanains defending so high up the pitch, were being found offside consistently and never really troubling Richard Kingson in goal. Stephen Appiah and Sulley Muntari & Asamoah Gyan were really troubling Brazil's defence, with Gyan playing very well and forcing Dida into a couple of fine saves, but from these attacks, Brazil were always ready to attack on the break and a fine save from Kingson saved Ghana’s blushes, saving well to deny an own-goal from John Pantsil. Ghana still pressed for a goal, but things were completely compounded for them when one of their biggest threats, Asamoah Gyan, was sent-off for a second yellow-card for diving, which spelt the end of Ghana. Brazil sealed the win with six minutes to go when, on one of Brazil’s counter-attacks, the Ghanaian offside trap failed completely and let Ze Roberto through, who knocked the ball past Kingson and side footed into the empty net. Try as they might to score a consolation goal, Ghana were denied by some great stops from Dida and some equally good defending from Brazil. Ghana can feel very proud of their performance in not only the match, but the tournament as a whole, forcing Brazil to defend hard, but failing on their final-shot on goal, with Ghana's keeper Richard Kingson also making some wonderful saves to keep the score at 3:0. Brazil will now play either Spain or France in the Quarter Final on Saturday |
