The Serbia and Montenegro squad arrived in Germany Tuesday for the World Cup without Dusan Petkovic, the son of coach Ilija Petkovic.
Dusan, 32, had been called up as a late replacement for the injured Mirko Vucinic, but the nomination had caused a huge controversy and led to accusations of nepotism.
A Serbia-Montenegro federation spokesman said Dusan Petkovic was not injured. As a result coach Petkovic will be unable to call up a replacement for his son, leaving Serbia and Montenegro as probably the only team to have a squad of 22 rather than 23 at the tournament.
The team is based in Billerbeck near Dortmund for its World Cup campaign during which it is facing Argentina, Holland and Ivory Coast in Group C.
